🇪🇸 Copa del Rey: Barcelona passes Real Betis

Copa del Rey action continued on Wednesday with two LaLiga giants in action. Here’s what happened.

Barcelona passes Real Betis

Goal scorers: Gavi 3′, Kounde 27′, Raphinha 58′, Torres 67′, Yamal 75′; Roque 84′ (P)

Barcelona advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey with a 5-1 win over Real Betis.

Gavi broke the deadlock after receiving a ball from Dani Olmo in the penalty area and his close control ability helped him slot home a low roller.

Another youth later presented himself in Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old prepared the second goal as Jules Kounde turned the game 2-0.

As Barcelona looked for a third goal, VAR was busy. An emphatic strike from Kounde onto the crossbar was ruled out for offside, before a goal from Yamal was disallowed for the same reason.

But an in-form Raphinha ensured his side scored three goals on the night when he volleyed home from inside the box, making his 30th goal contribution of the season.

Substitute Ferran Torres later joined in the action with a volley of his own from the bench, silencing the haters in celebration.

Later, Yamal finally scored a goal himself, ending two consecutive games in which Barcelona scored five goals.

A Real Betis comeback was honestly never in doubt as the visitors only registered three shots on goal against one of Europe’s best teams.

But Vitor Roque dashed Barcelona’s hopes of conceding a goal with a late penalty.

Elche vs Atleti (LIVE)

Goal scorers: Sorloth 8′, 29′ (P), Riquelme 61′

Elsewhere in Spain, Elche host Atletico de Madrid as both clubs aim for a place in the next round.

The hosts retained most of the possession in the first half, but the visitors scored the goal.

Alexander Sorloth scored the first goal after he beat his defender just above the penalty spot and shot effortlessly into the goal on the right side of the net.

The striker then converted a penalty and doubled the lead for Diego Simeone’s side.

Unfortunately for Elche, things got even worse after the break when Nicolás Fernández was sent off with a second yellow card with 40 minutes left to play.

The man advantage allowed Atleti to score a third goal through Rodrigo Riquelme.

More to come…
