🏆 Galaxy and Red Bulls win conference titles and set up MLS Cup clash

The two MLS conferences have new champions tonight as the LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls secure their place in an MLS Cup showdown next weekend.

Here’s what happened in the conference finals.

LA Galaxy 1-0 Seattle Sounders

Goalscorers: Joveljić 85′

Dejan Joveljić’s late winner ensured the Galaxy broke through and advanced to the MLS Cup final.

While the Galaxy have largely been able to go their own way in most of the MLS Cup playoffs so far, the guests from the Pacific Northwest were as stubborn as advertised in the first half.

In fact, the Sounders had the better of the game in the second half, but in the final minutes they were crushed by the prolific Galaxy attack when Riqui Puig brought in Dejan Joveljić for the winning goal, sending the home team into a frenzy.

The Galaxy will now face Eastern Conference champions New York Red Bulls for a chance at a sixth MLS Cup title – at home in Los Angeles.

Orlando City 0-1 New York Red Bulls

Goalscorers: Reyes 47′

The New York Red Bulls stormed into Orlando and secured their place in the MLS Cup final for the first time since 2008 with a narrow surprise win.

The visitors were in the driver’s seat in the first half, despite Óscar Pareja’s team being loudly cheered on.

But it took until after half-time for the deadlock to be broken when a great free-kick from John Tolkin found its way over Andrés Reyes’ head into the net.

While Orlando sent men forward in the final minutes to save the season, the visitors held on thanks to a heroic display from their rearguard and secured their place in the final in dramatic fashion.
