Louisiana governor condemns ‘horrific act of violence’

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry also posted on X today following the Bourbon Street incident.

We have reported reports from eyewitnesses who said the area was full of New Year party revelers.

“There was a horrific act of violence on Bourbon Street this morning,” said Governor Landry.

“Please join Sharon and me in praying for all the victims and first responders at the scene.

“I urge anyone near the scene to avoid the area.”

More details are emerging about what happened on Bourbon Street.

According to reports from the US broadcaster CBS on site, the white truck crashed into the victims at high speed as they celebrated the New Year.

According to witnesses who spoke to CBS, the driver then got out and began firing a gun. The police then returned fire.

The emergency team is warning people to stay away

Nola Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness team, called the accident reported today a “mass casualty incident.”

In their post on X today, they warned people to stay away from Canal and Bourbon Streets while teams respond on scene.

The nature of the injuries and the number of deaths are currently unknown, police said.

At least 10 deaths reported after vehicle drove into crowd

We know that at least ten people were reportedly killed after a vehicle plowed into a crowd in the French Quarter of New Orleans early Wednesday.

The incident occurred near the end of New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans and hours before kickoff of the AllState Bowl, a college football quarterfinal being played at the city’s Caesars Superdome that was expected to draw thousands of spectators.

Another 30 people are said to have been injured in the incident on Bourbon Street.
