10 people injured after several men fired more than 30 shots in a shooting at a New York nightclub

Ten people were injured in a shooting outside a New York City nightclub on New Year’s Day.

Several men fired over 30 bullets toward a group standing outside a venue at 91-12 144th Place in Queens at approximately 11:18 p.m. local time on Wednesday, January 1, according to a New York Police Department press release from the conference .

“Let me start by saying that there is zero tolerance for these senseless shootings, these horrific acts of violence on our streets, and that those responsible for this crime will be arrested and brought to justice,” NYPD Chief Philip Rivera said of the incident.

According to police, the venue was at capacity with 90 people at the time of the incident, resulting in a queue of around 15 people forming outside. According to ABC7, The Guardian and FOX5, the venue is called Amazura.

“Three to four men then opened fire more than 30 times toward the group standing outside the event space, striking multiple victims,” Rivera said.

According to authorities, the suspects fled the scene and were seen getting into a sedan with foreign license plates.

Police determined that of the ten victims, six were women and four were men.

All victims were taken to nearby hospitals and “are expected to recover with non-life-threatening injuries,” the NYPD said.

Rivera encouraged people to speak out if they have information about the crime, saying, “The public has been very helpful in catching dangerous individuals like these four men in recent weeks.”

Police are investigating the cause of the crime, although Rivera said it was “not a terrorist attack.”

ABC7 reports that the gathering was to celebrate the birthday of Tae’arion Mungo, a 16-year-old who was fatally shot in Brooklyn in October 2024.
