17-year-old shot dead in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – A teenager was the victim of a murder Tuesday night in New Haven.

New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson identified the victim as a 17-year-old boy.

Jacobson said the boy was shot while walking on the sidewalk. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police said it happened in the area of Shelton Avenue and Huntington Street.

Jacobson said police saw a dark-colored vehicle drive away from the scene, but no arrests were made.

Officials believe it may be related to a shooting last month that killed another teenager, a friend of the victim.

“He is a friend of our murder victim from a week and a half ago, the 16-year-old, so we believe there is likely a connection to this murder,” Jacobson said.

Neighbors in the area pleaded for an end to the violence, particularly against young people.

“We all lose our children. I mean, what can we say? We’re late again. “We’re late again,” said Raymond Jackson of New Haven.

Jacobson said additional officers and counselors would be available at Riverside High School on Wednesday.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.
