COBB COUNTY, Ga. – Party City has been the destination for holiday, celebration and graduation supplies for 38 years.

Soon all shops will close permanently.

CNN reports that the company is more than $800 million in debt, forcing Party City to close all of its more than 800 locations.

“This is a continuation of the trend we have seen. “That means brick-and-mortar stores have become very unpopular because, like you said, time is money, and people don’t want to take the time to go out and shop,” says Emory Business Professor Tom Smith. “People have become very sensitive about how much time they spend on the road or running errands.”

Smith said Party City, like other companies like Toys R’Us and Bed Bath and Beyond, has suffered as more shoppers moved online.

“Many people can get what they need with a few clicks of the mouse and have it delivered to their doorstep within a day.”
