A bloody, dramatic and heartbreaking finale to the Dutton saga, “Yellowstone” brings three special moments for Louisiana fans on Sunday night.

A funeral is usually followed by a meal, and this is the case after the service and burial of patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). “Gator” cuts beef for the grill and returns once more to feed the select few who are invited to say goodbye.

In addition to appearing as Gator again, the Duttons’ chef Gabriel Guilbeau also led the crew by preparing meals for the cast and crew on set throughout the five-season series. Although originally from California, he learned his cooking skills while spending summers growing up with the Louisiana branch of his family.

Lainey Wilson returned to her recurring role as Abby in the “Yellowstone” finale on Sunday night.

“Hey, you missed the service,” Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) says to Gator, who is operating the grill as the ranch hands came around the corner by the barn.

“I don’t do funerals,” Gator deadpans.

The chef later tells former Montana Governor Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz) that he made rib-eyes, beans, sourdough biscuits and blueberry cobbler.

“One of his favorites,” says Perry.

The finale also features Ethan Lee, who is described as a “real cowboy” and comes from Amite. Lee, who served as a consultant on the “Yellowstone” set to teach actors the finer points of horseback riding, became a recurring character at the end of the second season.

Three-quarters of the way through the 86-minute episode titled “Life is a Promise,” fans of Louisiana country star Lainey Wilson get their wish, with Wilson bringing along her Abby character – also a singer and former love of Ryan (Ian Bohen). ) – back on stage at Billy Bob’s Texas.

Wearing an orange cropped vest, bell-bottoms and a brown cowboy hat, she sang “Hang Tight Honey” from her latest album, “Whirlwind.”

Ryan watches, making eye contact from his standing-room-only spot in the crowd.

After the song, Abby grabs a beer and confronts Ryan about their volatile relationship. He admits he screwed up.

“Damn, you cowboys, you write poems about a horse, but you can’t tell a woman how you feel,” Abby replies in her best country twang.

“When I lie under the stars on a West Texas night, all I can think about is you,” Ryan confesses.

They walk arm in arm to the door.
