2 popular Girl Scout cookie flavors will disappear after 2025

For most Americans, taxes and Girl Scout cookies are two inevitable things that pop up at the start of the new year. Less than a month after we skipped all the cookies for Santa at Christmas, our minds are once again focused on sweet, crunchy treats — the kind we buy from the cute sash-wearing kids perched outside the supermarket. Many of us end up devouring these cookies by the box full! Unfortunately for fans of s’mores and toast-Yay! Different types of Girl Scout cookies, the curtain will come down on these desserts in 2025. None of the cookies will be returning next year, according to a press release the Girl Scouts of the USA shared with Foodie.

As the Girl Scouts kick off their 2025 cookie season, you’re no doubt thinking about what boxes you’ll stock up on this winter. Girls Scouts’ FAQ page breaks things down, arguing that not only do these cookie sales help young women develop entrepreneurial skills that will help them throughout their lives, but the proceeds from the cookies help them do just that, too to finance special local projects. Whether you buy cookies at your local Girl Scout or order them online, you’ll not only be pampering your face with delicious treats, but you’ll also be supporting a good cause. And if you love s’mores or toast-Yay! Cookies, there’s never been more incentive to stock up, because they really aren’t coming back. Unlike snack food products, which were discontinued for good reason, the departing cookies are leaving the company for far less scandalous reasons.

We know why Girl Scouts cookies are being discontinued – the organization simply wants to keep the rotation concise yet fresh, and so sometimes eliminates less popular varieties to make room for newer and trendier options. Luckily, there are still plenty of great cookies available. Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Samoas (the holy trinity of Girl Scouts treats) are all safe from the chopping block, of course, but there are also peanut butter Do-si-dos, brownie-style Adventurefuls, spicy lemonades, and gluten-free options like toffee tastic and caramel chocolate chip.

There’s no denying the loss of s’mores and toast-yay! Cookies are a deep cut. But we particularly loved the s’mores cookies, with their perfect shortcrust pastry and delicious chocolate and marshmallow layers that somehow capture all the flavors of a campfire favorite without a lot of fuss or gooey mess. However, we are happy with the loss of the cookies because that certainly means something new is coming in 2026. The only thing that could be as good as having Girl Scouts cookies in hand is dreaming about the fresh favorites to come. Have fun snacking!
