2025 NFL Draft: The New York Giants lose an option on the quarterback

The New York Giants are in dire straits at the quarterback position and need every option available to resolve the situation.

They lost a potential option Thursday afternoon when Georgia quarterback Carson Beck entered the transfer portal and withdrew from the 2025 NFL Draft.

Beck was highly regarded at Georgia for his overall accuracy and winning percentage, leading the SEC in attempts, completions and yards in 2023. At 1.80 meters and 100 kilograms, Beck also has a prototypical physique for an NFL quarterback. Thanks to these traits, Beck was a popular pick for the Giants in early (or way too early) mock drafts following the 2024 NFL Draft.

He didn’t make the expected stride in 2024 and his draft stock plummeted as he struggled all season. His season then ended with a UCL injury in the SEC Championship that required surgery.

Miami, Texas A&M and Ohio State are mentioned as likely landing spots for Beck.

Entering the transfer portal is probably the best way for Beck to repair his draft stock after a disappointing 2024 season. He had gone from a likely high first-round pick to a likely Day 2 pick at best.

However, Beck had put in three promising performances at the end of the year and there was hope that this could finally be the case clicked at the end of the year. The Giants made a concerted effort to scout Beck in 2024, and his return to school is likely the best decision for him, but also limits the Giants’ potential options for a quarterback of the future.
