3 keys to the Jets’ win over the Seahawks

EARLY RHYTHM IN THE OFFENSE

The Jets and Seahawks are two of the worst first quarter scoring teams in the league. Both teams have scored a field goal in each of the last three games. Gang Green also didn’t score a touchdown on its opening drive this season. Therefore, the Jets need to get off to a fast start to generate early momentum.

All too often this season, the Jets fell into an early deficit. Two weeks ago, the Colts were up 13-0 before the Jets fought back, but they couldn’t come away with the win.

Aaron Rodgers, who was off the injury report for the first time since Week 5, will need to use his legs to give his WRs opportunities to get open in the passing game. The Seahawks defense also allows over 130 rushing yards per game, and this should be an opportunity for the running backs to take advantage.

Force GENO to make mistakes

Geno Smith threw 12 interceptions in 11 games, the most in the league. The Jets defense needs to pressure Smith to force the ball into coverage. Gang Green ranks seventh in the league with 34 sacks. However, Seattle ranks second in passing yards per game (257.2). If the Jets can’t put consistent pressure on Smith, it could be another long day for their secondary. Although they rank second in passing yards allowed (174.9), the Jets’ defense has taken a step backwards since Jeff Ulbrich became interim coach. In their last six games, the Jets have allowed over 26 points per game.

STOP ‘HAWK’S RUNNING GAME

The Seahawks rank 28th in the league in rushing, but they will likely plan to run the ball more often this week. The Jets have struggled in recent weeks in losses to the Cardinals and Colts and are allowing 130.1 rushing yards per game.

Seattle has two talented running backs, Kenneth Walker III and Zach Chabonnet, who can pressure Smith. The Jets allowed just 91 yards on the ground against the Colts in Week 11, but they allowed Anthony Richardson to score two key touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 46 seconds left. Smith isn’t known for his mobility, but he averages 5.2 rushing yards per attempt.
