3 positives and 2 negatives from Arsenal’s decisive win over Man Utd

Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday night to continue their bid to stay in the title race.

Jurrien Timber opened the scoring for his side as he scored his first Gunners goal from a Declan Rice corner. Arsenal’s lead was doubled thanks to another corner. Bukayo Saka’s shot was saved at the back post by Thomas Partey, whose header across goal was deflected off William Saliba.

In a game that had a huge impact on their title aspirations, there were a number of positives and negatives for Arsenal.

Arsenal have become arguably the most dangerous team in the world from set pieces and they even strengthened that argument against Man United.

Both of the Gunners’ goals came from corners, one from either side. Declan Rice’s shot was saved by Jurrien Timber, who fired a superb header past Andre Onana to put his side in the lead. Although Arsenal’s second goal was somewhat of a fluke, the brilliance of the set-pieces was still highlighted. Thomas Partey arrived at the back post from Bukayo Saka’s corner and headed across to William Saliba, who deflected the ball.

Teams still seem to find it so difficult to defend the Gunners’ set pieces, despite their brilliance having been highlighted on the pitch and in the media for so long. Let this dominance last a long time for Arsenal.

Despite their win and their dominant performance, Arsenal started the game quite slowly as they let United take control for parts of the first 25 minutes.

Not only did they allow the visitors to take control, but the Gunners were also frustrated in attack. Both Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey missed golden opportunities to put their team in the lead in the first half.

For the Gunners it’s the result that counts, but it would be nice to see them attacking games and dominating teams from the start. That was the case in recent games against Sporting CP and West Ham, so it would have been nice to see the same attitude against United too.
