Three people were shot and another person was stabbed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona during a family dispute in one of the terminals on Christmas night, police said.

The incident occurred outside a restaurant in Terminal 4, outside security, where emergency responders found three people with gunshot wounds around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Phoenix Police Sgt. Mayra Reeson told reporters early Thursday.

Officers also later found two other people in the parking garage, one of them with at least one stab wound, Reeson said.

A juvenile female was arrested, police said, and no charges were filed.

Police believe all five people involved knew each other and “the altercation escalated when someone produced a handgun,” Reeson said.

It is not clear whether the group was planning a trip or was at the airport for another reason.

The shots fired forced the temporary closure of Terminal 4’s security checkpoint, a spokesperson for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport told CNN in an email.

“The incident has been resolved and operations are returning to normal,” the airport spokesman said early Thursday.

Police said there were “no active threats at the airport” and no flights were affected as investigators work to determine what led to the shooting.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
