3 things we learned from the Saints’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders | Saints

The Saints lost to the Las Vegas Raiders 25-10 on Sunday, dropping them to 5-11 this season. Here are three things we learned after this latest loss.

This is a wrap

Do you remember the time when you were in seventh heaven in September when the Saints scored 47 points in their season-opening win over Carolina? That seems like years ago now. This defeat was as bad as it gets against a team that started with just three wins. The Saints had hoped to give the Who Dats something to celebrate one last time in the Dome, but were unable to do so. A week ago, the Raiders had the No. 1 draft pick. The Saints looked like they deserved this pick after that performance. The Saints lost their last three games in the Dome, finishing 3-6 at home.

Rattler review

Spencer Rattler was a mixed bag in last Monday night’s 34-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The same can be said after Sunday’s game. He made some brilliant throws, including some under immense pressure. But he also had some costly mistakes. His overthrown pass in the fourth quarter turned into a costly interception that sealed the Saints’ fate. He completed 20 of 36 passes for 218 yards (one TD, two INTs). His receivers didn’t help him and dropped several catchable passes. Rattler didn’t take a step back, which is good considering he’s missing most of his primary weapons on offense. But he is still a work in progress.

Assault

The Raiders came into the Dome with the NFL’s worst rushing offense, averaging just 77.7 yards per game. You wouldn’t have known that if you saw them against the Saints defense. The Raiders eclipsed that in the first half when they managed 81 yards on the ground. They finished with 158 rushing yards. The Saints are 30th in the league and have a good defense and played like that on Sunday. For Mickey Loomis and the man he hires to replace Dennis Allen, getting better at stopping the run should be at the top of the list this offseason.
