4 Shows Horror Fans Should Keep an Eye on in December 2024

The end of another year is upon us, but there are still plenty of TV shows and movies to watch before it officially ends. Surprisingly, December is full of exciting genre films and new series, such as the highly anticipated return of the Netflix blockbuster series Squid game and Robert Eggers’ next film, Nosferatu.

Especially on television, horror fans will be pleased to know that the Dexter The prequel series makes its debut on Paramount+ with Showtime, and there are a few other titles to keep an eye out for. Ranging from horror to sci-fi and everything in between, the shows listed below are sure to keep viewers entertained between the holidays.

The Earth Remains – Episode 105

Over three years later, the hugely successful Korean series was released by Netflix Squid game finally comes back with new episodes! The streaming service previously confirmed that the show would be returning and subsequently announced that the third season would also be its last.

In Season 2, arriving the day after Christmas, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is back and prepares to return to the Games to uncover the frontman and the dark truth behind the deadly competition. Can he work fast enough to warn the other participants, or will he end up having to work alone? And can he actually survive another round of these twisted games?

The first entry in James Gunn’s official new take on the DC Universe, Creature Commands is the start of the “Gods and Monsters” saga. It loosely follows the events of Max and Gunn Peacemaker series in which Viola Davis returns to reprise her role as Amanda Waller.

This time, Waller recruits a black ops team made up of monsters like Eric Frankenstein, Circe, Clayface and Bride of Frankenstein. Although not announced as a horror series, Creature Commands features characters that pay homage to many classic Universal monsters. All seven episodes were written by Gunn and the first two episodes will debut on December 5th, followed by one new episode per week until January 9th.

The jury is still out on whether we need another Dexter Spinoff series, specifically a prequel that follows serial killer Dexter Morgan during his time as a teenager and would-be murderer. But we’ll find out soon enough when the new series debuts on Paramount+ with Showtime this December.

At the very least, it will be exciting to see younger versions of popular characters like Debra Morgan, Angel Batista, Vince Masuka and Maria LaGuerta. We’ve seen plenty of Dexter flashbacks throughout the original series, so it’s hard to imagine the prequel breaking new ground. And at least Michael C. Hall returns to narrate Dexter’s inner voice.
