5 observations on the Jaguars’ demoralizing loss to the Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered another disappointing loss on Sunday. lost to the Houston Texans in a 23:20 game This was full of emotions, fights and the loss of the key element of the series.

But what did we see in the Jaguars’ recent one-point loss? We explain it below.

It’s time for the Jaguars to cut Trevor Lawrence

It’s time for the Jaguars to look after the interests of their franchise player. After Trevor Lawrence’s scary concussion against the Texans late in the first half, there should be little concern about when Lawrence will be able to return. Lawrence needs to let his body heal from the beating he took in 2024 and there is nothing left to play for.

Lawrence will never retire from the field and from the fight. The Jaguars just have to do it for him, even if without him it means five more potential losses and jobs as a result. Lawrence needs to be protected from himself after his shoulder and concussion injuries. It’s time to turn the tide towards 2025.

Travon Walker continues his strong season

Despite a severe lack of sack production in college and his first year as a pro, Travon Walker has emerged as one of the most consistent sack artists in the NFL over the past few seasons. Walker recorded sack No. 8.5 on Sunday, hitting CJ Stroud early in the game to move one step closer to his second straight 10-sack season.

Despite all the criticism the Jaguars received for selecting Walker in 2022, it appears they were correct in their evaluation of the Georgia product. He has developed into a pass rusher and become a consistent force on the edge of the Jaguars’ defense, which is everything the franchise could ever hope for.

Jaguars have two young pieces to build the passing game

If there’s one positive for the Jaguars after Sunday’s debacle, it’s the fact that Parker Washington and Brian Thomas Jr. had great performances in the loss. Washington caught six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, while Thomas caught four passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Having two playmakers as receivers on rookie deals could go a long way in how the Jaguars continue to develop their offense and passing game.

“I did a lot of reps today, a lot of goals, probably the most I’ve had since college. I had a drop, really, a few drops. Lots of difficult catches, but nothing is a difficult catch; “You have to catch anything, especially if it touches your hands,” Washington said after the game. “But it was exciting to get some reps. My coaches trusted me to play outside. It was just cool to build on that because I didn’t play outside in college. I was always labeled as righteous.” One slot. That’s what excites me the most, getting rid of that and just being labeled a receiver.”

Evan Engram surprised no one

Simply put, Evan Engram surprised absolutely no one when he was the first player to respond to Trevor Lawrence’s late hit. Engram immediately took offense to his quarterback and close friend’s hit and responded with a shot at Azeez Al-Shair in the first moments after the hit. It raised a flag, but it was also the obvious move for Engram.

As a team source told Jaguars On SI after the game, “Evan is one of our dogs. That’s just who he is.” Thanks to his intensity, work ethic and overall passion for the game and his teammates, Engram has been respected since day one on the Jaguars team. If you were to conduct a poll about which member of the Jaguars’ locker room would be the first to step up for an injured teammate, Engram would probably win by a landslide.

The Jaguars’ offense and defense couldn’t find an answer during the bye week

For all the talk of internal changes at the Jaguars during their bye week, they certainly looked like the same old Jaguars on both sides of the ball on Sunday. The offense found its stride after trailing 23-6, but it took nearly four quarters for them to get anything going. And the defense made a few stops early in the game, but ultimately failed again and again on third down.

The Jaguars couldn’t just blow up their entire operation during the bye week, but the only real changes they made were activating Maason Smith and Keilan Robinson. The Jaguars have made their bed for the 2024 season. For better or worse, it appears that the 2024 Jaguars are simply what they are, and hope for improvement is still an offseason away.
