David O. Russell’s career was quiet for a few years – and if you want to be precise, since then Amsterdam hit theaters in October 2022 and then quickly left. Sure, Russell has had a handful of projects announced or publicly mooted (including a highly hypothetical report about a John Mulaney). Reboot, that’s too weird for us not to worry about on a regular basis), but not much in terms of concrete work. However, that trend could soon change as the Oscar-winning director is involved in a project that has reportedly just been acquired by AppleTV+, which he will executive produce alongside Oscar Isaac and Ana de Armas.

Directed by Russell and starring Isaac and de Armas, the series is apparently titled Bananasand the sound you just heard showed that we have reached the end of all the other facts we know about this project. Russell and his collaborators are apparently keeping details about the series – like what it’s about, what it’s about, what it might look like, etc. – completely secret. Oh, wait, no: It’s also being written and released on an EP Orange is the new black And Producer Carolina Paiz, so… crime? Possibly?

Despite the big hanging question marks, deadline reports that the bidding for the series was “competitive” and that Apple ultimately won the contract for the well-known project. To be fair, it does kind of sound like an AppleTV+ show: the streaming service has made a name for itself by liberally using other people’s names, and Isaac, de Armas and even Russell are still well-known enough to make the three of them collaborate on a fascinating project . We’ll probably know more at some point, because it’s hard to imagine anyone knowing less.
