6-Banner Sunday: IU completes non-conference game against Winthrop – Inside the Hall

Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production of The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the top five IU basketball stories from the past week and take a look at the performance of the other IU athletic programs.

Indiana has not played since the release of the last 6 banner as it is on an extended holiday break. Today it will face Winthrop in its non-conference finale.

In addition, readers will find information about this week’s two-way wins in women’s basketball, a look at the roster and weekly shows. As usual, we’ll close with a look at other IU sports, most notably football, and add some top transfers.

Here’s what’s in this week’s issue:

• Hoosiers complete non-conference play against Winthrop
• Women defeated Oakland in non-conference final
• Women dominate Wisconsin in Big Ten home opener
• A look at IU’s 12-game roster
• Podcast for Brink and Back Home Network shows
• Hoosier Summary

Banner #1 – Hoosiers complete non-conference play against Winthrop

The Hoosiers haven’t played since their narrow escape against Chattanooga a week ago on Saturday. They return today at 4 p.m. in Bloomington on BTN against Winthrop in their non-conference finale.

IU is 9-3 overall while the Eagles are 10-4. This will be Indiana’s final preparation before returning to Big Ten play for good, starting with Rutgers at Assembly Hall on Thursday.

Banner #2 – Women beat Oakland in non-conference final

While the men continue to be inconsistent, the women improve significantly throughout the year. Last Sunday they had their biggest win of the season with a 90-55 win over Oakland.

It was IU’s final non-conference game of the 2024–2025 season. Shay Ciezki led three double-digit scorers with 20 points. Karoline Striplin added 16 points while Sydney Parrish contributed 11 points.

Banner #3 – Women dominate Wisconsin in Big Ten home opener

IU played even better in its Big Ten home opener against Wisconsin yesterday. Although the Hoosiers improved in competition, they were just as dominant against a conference opponent (albeit one picked at the bottom of the league).

The final ended 83-52, with starter Lily Meister doing her best impression of Mackenzie Holmes with 20 points to take the lead. Although Indiana coach Teri Moren no longer has a star player, she has put together a rock-solid program that is greater than the sum of its parts.

With an elite division and a record of 10-3, the team is well positioned for its sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Their biggest challenge of the season comes next Saturday against top-ranked UCLA at noon on FOX.

Banner #4 – A look at IU’s 12-game roster

With the men’s team having a bye week over the holidays, Inside the Hall took a look at where the IU squad stands heading into the 12 games. Alex Bozich broke down each member of this Hoosier team by player.

Banner #5 – Podcast covering Brink and Back Home Network shows

The podcast on the Brink was recorded this week. In it, WDRB’s Rick Bozich discussed where IU stands as a program.

The Back Home Network has been on the air several times in recent days. Crimson Cast, Doing The Work, Dribble Drive and Xs and Joes were all recorded this week.

Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup

• Football added a star quarterback and a running back last week, among several big transfer portal additions. In addition, outgoing quarterback Kurtis Rourke was recognized as the best in the country at his position.

• In volleyball, a former player signed a professional contract.

• Wrestling will compete in the Ken Kraft Midlands Championship this weekend.

Thank you for your continued support of The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall. We’ll be back next weekend with a new recap.

Now enjoy a 6-Banner Sunday.
