6 characters who need to return for the Scrubs reboot

The Scrubs reboot is a big step towards success as series creator Bill Lawrence is on board to develop the series for ABC and the next step will be to bring some of the original cast members on board. According to reports, this is currently underway and the series is looking to bring back Zach Braff (JD), Sarah Chalke (Elliot), Donald Faison (Turk), and John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) for the reboot. There are also talks about bringing back Judy Reyes’ Carla, and if so, it would bring over the main cast from the original series. However, there are some other delightfully quirky characters that fans would no doubt love to see return in a reboot series, and these are our picks of the ones we’d love to see come back.

Jordan Sullivan: Christa Miller

While Dr. While Kelso was largely the main villain of “Scrubs”, especially in the first few seasons, there was another antagonistic force in “Sacred Heart” with Jordan Sullivan. Jordan was played by Christa Miller and is the ex-wife of Dr. Cox. As they meet again and again throughout the series and towards the end of the series, their razor-sharp sarcasm is often directed at the other characters in the series, particularly JD and Turk.

Some of these rough edges smooth out over the course of the 88-episode series, as does her relationship with Dr. Cox evolves over the course of the series. She’s one of the characters who would really benefit from a return in the reboot, especially since Dr. Cox is also set to return, as fans would like to see how they have changed and evolved as individuals and as a potential couple, which is the direction the series is taking. Additionally, Miller played the role fantastically and the dynamic between her and McGinley was always wonderful.

Bob Kelso: Ken Jenkins

Few people at Sacred Heart were thrilled when they found themselves in the sights of Dr. Kelso, who was played by Ken Jenkins. Kelso was once trained by Dr. Cox has been called the most evil person on the planet, and he has lived up to this reputation in his various interactions with Dr. Cox and the rest of the staff.

However, like Jordan, Kelso became less aggressive as the show progressed and even became a source of advice toward the end of the show. Although he didn’t show his softer side often, the brief glimpses fans got were enough to show that he may not have been a complete villain.

At the end of the show, Kelso teaches at Winston University and causes chaos. He could easily be brought back in a smaller role to lighten things up while he interacts with not only the familiar faces, but also any new interns the show brings in. This would allow the show to touch on some of his most famous moments while watching the Newbies tell how difficult it was to start with, and it also has the potential to create some brand new, unforgettable moments.

The Todd: Robert Maschio

One of the first characters to make an impact in the original series was undoubtedly Todd Quinlan, although he was commonly known as “The Todd.” Todd, played by Robert Maschio, appears in 126 episodes and is one of the few characters to appear in both the pilot and the series finale.

Especially in the early seasons, “The Todd” is best known for his frat-boy attitude and womanizing, although he does become good friends with Turk and occasionally gives advice to the janitor, but the quality of that advice isn’t exactly top notch.

The thing is, Todd is actually an amazing surgeon and shows some additional layers over the course of the show, even if it’s for a very short period of time. His return would be a fantastic way to add more depth to the character and show how he has (perhaps) grown out of some of his previous attitudes. You could still show a few elements to keep it true to the show, but it would be amazing to see a completely different and more mature side of him after all these years.

Lucy Bennett: Kerry Bishe

Season 9 of the series saw the addition of several new characters, and as JD and Elliot faded into the background, Lucy Bennett took over the lead role. Bennett was played by Kerry Bishe and she took on the role of the point-of-view character, allowing fans to see not only what was happening in reality, but also their own dreams and visions of what could happen, and JD also acted as a mentor to her at times during the season.

As with the person next on this list, Bennett may have been a key character, but she didn’t get a chance to really develop over the course of the season, as it ended abruptly 13 episodes after the rest of the season was not picked up by the network. Her early bond with JD and her encounters with Kelso would be good touchpoints for her in the reboot, and her perspective would be a welcome addition between the series’ veterans and the new characters in the mix.

Cole Aaronson: Dave Franco

Speaking of Season 9, the other key character in the soft reboot season is Cole Aaronson, played by Dave Franco. Aaronson has one of the larger storylines of the shorter 13-episode season, ranging from being a relatively spoiled and self-centered person to someone who learns to appreciate the more important things in life after being diagnosed with melanoma.

Part of this equation is his on-and-off relationship with Lucy Bennett, although his dynamic with Dr. Cox and Turk also take center stage throughout the season. Aaronson and Bennett both overcome their own personal difficulties while balancing their mutual attraction, and that could easily be developed further in the reboot. It would also give Aaronson more opportunities to show his own personal growth while also regularly interacting with more members of the original cast if this were to happen.

The Caretaker: Neil Flynn

Well, this is the person everyone has been waiting for and you knew he would be on this list. The Janitor is considered part of the main cast thanks to his frequent moments of comedy gold throughout the series and was played in 166 episodes by actor Neil Flynn.

While the Janitor appeared throughout the show, it wasn’t until the season eight finale that his name was revealed to be Glen Matthews. Throughout his time on the show, Matthews constantly pranked JD and generally drove him crazy, and he was known for spouting more lies than truths in almost every conversation. Ironically, after learning that JD had left, his time at Sacred Heart ended and he dropped his mop and disappeared from the hospital immediately after.

This makes him a perfect character to bring back for the reboot. Not only is he a comedic goldmine, it would also allow the series to give him more dimension if he returns because JD is back in some form or fashion. Add in the new recruits and you have even more opportunities for The Janitor to shine once again, and without him a reboot would hardly be as great.
