Days after he experienced an unspecified health scare that landed him in the hospital, comedian Deon Cole had to evacuate his home in Los Angeles due to the ongoing wildfires.

“This day is devastating!!!! I left the hospital early, got sick, went home and then had to pack what I could to evacuate,” Cole, 53, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, January 12. “As I drove away I saw the fire coming up behind my house. It’s a nightmare!!! I got the flowers my mother gave me before she died.”

Alongside his caption, Cole had shared a video he shot from the car as he drove through his neighborhood, capturing the thick smoke and intense red glow of the fire as it continued to burn through the Los Angeles neighborhood. “Oh my God, look at that,” he said Barber shop Stern can be heard in the video. “It’s right above my house.”

Cole, who celebrated his birthday on Thursday, January 9, had spent the day in the hospital due to health problems. Just two days before his release and forced evacuation, he shared a selfie from his hospital bed on Instagram, but gave no further information about his health.

As wildfires continue to spread across the Los Angeles area, several celebrities are taking to social media to share how they’re being affected. “Evacuated and safe with children, dogs and cats. Cole is one of tens of thousands of people whose homes were destroyed by the wildfires that raged across the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, January 7.

A storm caused wildfires to spread quickly across the Pacific Palisades and other Los Angeles neighborhoods – including Malibu and the Hollywood Hills – destroying or severely damaging more than 12,000 buildings and forcing over 150,000 people to evacuate.

A number of celebrities have lost their homes due to the historic fires, including Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Heidi Montag And Spencer Pratt, Billy Crystal, Mel Gibson And Milo Ventimiglia. Other stars like Mark Hamill, Jennie Garth And Mandy Moore are among those who were given the order to evacuate.

Hilton, 43, shared a video on Instagram on Thursday, January 9, of the remains of her home, which was completely burned to the ground.

“I stand here in our former home and the grief is truly indescribable.💔🥺,” she wrote. “When I first saw the news I was in complete shock – I couldn’t process it. But now that I’m standing here and seeing it with my own eyes, I feel like my heart is broken into a million pieces.😢💔”

She continued, “This house wasn’t just a place to live – it was the place where we dreamed, laughed, and created the most beautiful memories as a family.” It was here that Phoenix’s little hands created art that I will treasure forever honor where love and life filled every corner.
