Neil Gaiman faces new sexual assault allegations

New allegations of sexual misconduct and assault have emerged against Neil Gaiman, the bestselling fantasy author whose books he wrote Good omens, American Gods And The Sandman have become television series.

On Monday, New York Magazine published a cover story titled “There Is No Safe Word,” in which author Lila Shapiro details new allegations against Gaiman based on interviews with eight women. This follows the release of the Tortoise Media podcast in July 2024 masterwhich reported on previous graphic allegations made by five women against the acclaimed genre author. (Four of these women were among those who spoke for the speech New York Magazine Piece.)

One of the claims comes from Scarlett Pavlovich, a former babysitter of Gaiman and his ex-wife Amanda Palmer, who described being sexually assaulted by Gaiman in a backyard bathtub in February 2022 in New Zealand.

She also claimed Gaiman attacked her under the covers of a hotel room bed while his son was playing with an iPad in the same room. (Gaiman’s representatives disputed this claim, calling it false, not to mention unfortunate.) New York Magazine.)

In January 2023, a police report was filed accusing Gaiman of sexual assault, but the investigation was eventually dropped.

Another sexual misconduct claim detailed New York Magazine The feature is by Brenda (a pseudonym), who remembers meeting Gaiman at a book signing in the 1990s. A few years later, she and Gaiman had a sexual encounter at a horror convention.

“He seemed to have a script,” Brenda said. “He wanted me to call him ‘Master’ right away…It was as if he had engaged in this ritual that had nothing to do with me.”

Upcoming Gaiman book-to-film adaptations include: The Sandman Season two on Netflix, the Amazon miniseries Anansi boysand the final 90-minute episode of Good omenalso on Amazon. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Netflix and Amazon for comment on the status of these projects and also asked Gaiman for direct comment on the allegations in the magazine’s cover story.

Gaiman has also written screenplays for Nowhere And Mirror maskwrote an episode of Doctor WhoCo-author Beowulf with Robert Zemeckis and produced the film Stardust.

Gaiman announced through his representatives New York Magazine he and the women had engaged in “consensual encounters”.
