Warming centers are opening across metro Atlanta as a shot of arctic air drops temperatures below freezing

Warming centers have been opened across metro Atlanta in response to forecast low temperatures falling well below freezing, as a strong arctic air mass is expected to keep temperatures well below normal throughout the weekend.

Some parts of the metro area will see lows in the 20s Friday evening, while some parts of northeast Georgia may see the mercury dip into the teens by Tuesday morning.

Highs will be in the low 50s on Saturday and Sunday with dry conditions. Another shot of Arctic air arrives on Monday and Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid 40s, lows will be in the 20s. On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, the subway could get into the teens.

Atlanta, DeKalb County, Cobb County and Gwinnett County have opened warming shelters to help the homeless. The locations can be found below:

Frontline needs warm weather supplies such as hats, gloves, coats and hand warmers for its customers. Donations can be dropped off at the Gresham Road shelter Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
