Diogo Jota reveals what he told Kostas Tsimikas to ‘recreate’ goal from two years ago – Liverpool FC

Diogo Jota saved another point for Liverpool after scoring with his first touch of the ball in a 1-1 draw at Forest, a goal we had previously seen at Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot’s men were largely out of pace and off balance on their way to the City Ground, it was only after the introduction of Kostas Tsimikas and Jota in the 65th minute that the dynamic changed.

Within 22 seconds of their arrival they had scored together, with Tsimikas taking the corner that Jota converted – a combination we had seen at the same end in 2022.

That day, Jota scored the only goal as Liverpool progressed in the FA Cup at Forest, with the left-back sending in a cross from the left. Familiar, right?

It wasn’t lost on the Reds’ No.20 as he was already laying the foundation on the touchline before he and Tsimikas were introduced.

Speaking to TNT Sports, he explained: “I actually told him, we were watching the (FA) Cup game two or three years ago, the cup goal, and he passed it to me.

“We were standing there on the sideline and I just said, ‘Yeah, let’s go and recreate your assist.’ Take the corner.

“It was one of those moments where everything was going well. Like I said, I’m not happy because I think we could have won.

“I had more, two more chances, which I think could have given us the three points. Unfortunately I couldn’t.”

Liverpool had the chance to take the lead and Jota provided the impetus with three shots on target and two missed big chances – with Forest’s defensive moves and saves from Matz Sels being crucial.

Jota added: “I told my previous coaches there at Wolves. I think he made two great saves. Of course you want to do better, but I think he was good too.”

Can there ever be a game where the opposing goalkeeper doesn’t put in his best performance ever?
