David Schwimmer has revealed he once served divorce papers on Sir Rod Stewart while working for his mother’s law firm as an 18-year-old.

The “Friends” star said he was grateful he had never met the singer since.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Schwimmer recalled some of the summer jobs he took while in college.

He said, “One summer after my freshman year, I was looking for work and my mother said, ‘You can act as my attorney of record.’ My mother was a divorce lawyer, so I was the guy who would emerge from the bushes and hand you the divorce papers.

“When I was 18, I was like James Bond… because you get a tip, you know where they could be.

“And thank God I’ve never met him since, but I served Rod Stewart.”

Schwimmer, 58, said he had no idea whether Sir Rod recognized him all these years later. “I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows,” he said.

Colbert joked: “He knows now.

“Theoretically, you could run into Rod Stewart at some point, and now he knows how to beat you.”

Schwimmer turned 18 in 1984, the year Sir Rod separated from his first wife, Alana Stewart, after five years of marriage.

The singer married Rachel Hunter in 1990 and divorced in 2006. In 2007, he married Penny Lancaster and the two are still together.

Alana wrote about her divorce in 2012: “When Rod and I separated, I thought my world was ending. I was completely devastated and had no idea how to pick up the pieces of my broken heart.

“Divorce is never easy, but it’s even more painful when you find out your husband is having an affair with a beautiful model who is 15 years younger than you.” Alana said she has since forgiven Sir Rod, with whom she had two children, Kimberly and Sean.

Sir Rod was 34 when he married Alana in 1979 but believes he was not mature enough for marriage. He once told People magazine: “When I told my dad I was getting married, he said, ‘You’re way too young.’ He was right. I still had a lot to do, to live, to party, to drink and to sleep.”

Schwimmer appeared on The Stephen Colbert Show to promote his latest TV series, “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” on Disney+. The couple studied together at Northwestern University and shared stories about summer jobs. Schwimmer also worked as a roller skating waiter.
