Fortnite’s Scheduled Maintenance Reveals Exciting Updates: Here’s the Estimated Time to Return

Fortnite players had a cracking morning as the fan-favorite game’s server outage left millions of players unable to access it. The outages were a result of Epic Games’ planned maintenance work. From here, however, players can dive back into the game.

Battle Royale and other games running on its servers were largely inaccessible this morning due to maintenance for the v33.00 update. This major update sets the stage for a new season and makes the downtime worthwhile for dedicated players waiting for the new content and changes it will bring.

How long will the Fortnite outage last?

Before this morning’s outage, the Fortnite status team posted on Update should last eight hours and launch at 10 a.m. ET (3 a.m. GMT) in the US. This means players won’t be able to play until 12 p.m. ET.

Epic Games announced that all systems were up and running sooner than expected, with services fully operational at 9:40 a.m., hours ahead of schedule. This meant players were able to log in and start playing a few hours earlier than expected.

The downtime affected many Fortnite services, including the LEGO version and the car-based soccer game Rocket League. They revealed: “This planned maintenance affected: Rocket League Racing (matchmaking), LEGO Fortnite (matchmaking), Fortnite Festival (matchmaking), and Fortnite (game services, login, parties, friends and messaging, voice chat, matchmaking, stats, etc.) . The planned downtime was used to usher in a new chapter of Fortnite, which today marks the start of Season Six, Chapter One. The update, titled “Hunters,” introduces a brand new Fortnite map as well as a variety of additional outfits available through the Battle Pass.

The Japan-themed update introduces Godzilla, Baymax from Big Hero Six, and scenic Japanese elements like cherry blossom trees for players to enjoy along with a map. While most services are now back online, one game mode, Reload, has been temporarily disabled due to a technical issue.

The next round begins at 6 a.m. UTC (6 a.m. GMT), with players experiencing “reduced availability” of in-game lobbies. The performance degradation is expected to last for two hours. Epic warns that lobby invites and other features may experience delays or occasional outages during this time.
