Arsenal vs Tottenham player ratings – Gabriel shines in north London derby comeback

Tottenham Hotspur’s 25th-minute goal gave Spurs hope of a north London derby, but the final result looks as expected as Arsenal won 2-1 against their historic and injury-hit rivals at the Emirates Stadium.

Not that Arsenal aren’t missing any players, as Bukayo Saka’s absence was keenly felt in the red part of North London.

But Leandro Trossard got the job done and Raheem Sterling also thrived, playing less than 90 minutes each at the Emirates.

Spurs had two of their three midfielders poor in the first half and that might just be the story of the final result. Ange Postecoglou demolished both affected players during the break.

Here are our player ratings from a defiant, random 115-yard game in north London.

Arsenal player ratings against Tottenham out of 10

David Raya: 6 — Didn’t have to do much. Dropped a cross but it didn’t bite him.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (From 87′): 8 — Confident on the ball and aggressive in the game, the teenager won 4 out of 5 duels.

Gabriel Magalhaes: 9 — From that angle at the back post, it wasn’t a simple header that brought Arsenal level – it went down as a Solanke own goal – and it came just minutes after he had met a cross from Djed Spence that was destined for Dominic Solanke to finish , had fended off brilliantly.

William Saliba: 8 — Had his best game against Virgil van Dijk when he sank long balls with style and sent the challengers to the other side of the pitch (where Gabriel was more than ready for them).

Jurrien Wood: 7.5 – Super solid in every way.

Thomas Partey: 7 — Kept the ball and won 5 out of 7 duels.

Declan Rice (From 87′): 7.5 — His corner service continues to receive rave reviews, but it feels like a 7.5 rating is his baseline. An elite gaming dictator.

Martin Odegaard: 8 — Just your boring game with four chances and an 85% pass rate despite operating in the crowded areas of the pitch.

Leandro Trossard (Off 77′): 8 — One of his more composed games with the ball, where he scored a great goal and managed ten touches in the Spurs penalty area.

Raheem Sterling (Off 61′): 7.5 — In an hour-long battle with Djed Spence, who was up to the challenge. Sterling had to face 14 tackles in his 61 minutes.

Kai Havertz: 6.5 — An inconclusive 90. Full effort, but one would have expected more from the center forward.

Subs
Gabriel Martinelli (61st minute): 6 – Ineffective, missed a chance to score.
Kieran Tierney (77th minute): 6.5 – Had little to do.
Mikel Merino (87th minute): – N/A

Solanke’s own goal brings Arsenal level with Spurs

Arsenal’s corner magic continues as Dominic Solanke scores the Gunners’ first-half equalizer against Spurs at the Emirates.

Tottenham player ratings at Arsenal out of 10

Antonin Kinsky: 6 — Rice’s corner kick at Gabriel’s goal is blocked from reaching him.

DJ Spence: 7 — His challenge with Sterling was excellent, as was his cross outside the boot to Solanke, which was saved by Gabriel.

Radu Dragusin: 5 — They want more from him with the ball and definitely better marking from Gabriel on the own goal. To be fair, he plays alongside a teenage midfielder every minute of every game.

Archie Gray: 6 – It’s hard to give him too many points considering he is Despite it no central defender.

Pedro Porro: 6 — He was busy going forward and hit the post late on, but was sloppy on the final ball.

Yves Bissouma (Off HT): 5 – Gave the ball away in Trossard’s goal and struggled overall.

Pape Sarr (Off HT): 4.5 – Could have done a lot more to help his defenders after Bissouma gave away Trossard’s goal.

Lucas Bergvall: 7.5 — Perhaps the team’s bright light and showed fire in the clash with Lewis-Skelly.

Dejan Kulusevski: 6.5 — Deprived of the ball and lost the lion’s share of his duels. A rare day off.

Heung-min Son (From 79′): 7 — He deflected his goal well, but you can’t score if you don’t shoot.

Dominic Solanke: 6 — Twenty-four touches in 90 minutes as he missed the ball and was unlucky to score an own goal.

Subs
James Maddison (on HT): 7 – Pretty good from the bench but has to wonder why he’s even there,
Brennan Johnson (on HT): 6 – Quiet
Richarlison (79th minute): – N/A
