Lakers Reportedly Sign Ex-Pelicans Players

As the Los Angeles Lakers attempt to stay in title contention in the final seasons of LeBron James’ historic career, taking solid action around the edges is crucial. Los Angeles bolstered its offensive strength with the recent acquisition of versatile winger Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets.

Since there are still some holes on the roster, the Lakers are expected to be active until the NBA trade deadline. Even if the team doesn’t make big moves to add a third star alongside James and Anthony Davis, upgrades can be made on the edges to improve LA’s chances.

It was announced on Wednesday that the Lakers have made a new roster move.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Lakers have acquired the New Orleans Pelicans’ youngest center, Trey Jemison.

On Charania: “The Los Angeles Lakers plan to sign former Pelicans center Trey Jemison to a two-way NBA contract and waive Quincy Olivari, sources tell ESPN. Jemison gives the Lakers some physicality upfront. He averaged 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 41 career NBA games.”

Jemison will strengthen LA’s frontcourt strength with the NBA club and will likely also have a longer career with the South Bay Lakers. It seems possible that this is just one of the few remaining moves the Lakers will make before the February trade deadline.
