NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed to death in a reported break-in attempt at his 11th floor Bandra residence early on Thursday morning. The 54-year-old actor suffered six stab wounds after confronting an intruder who broke into his home between 2am and 2.30am. The attacker fled the scene after a violent scuffle with the actor.
Police reported that the intruder had a confrontation with Khan’s maid before the actor intervened, resulting in a physical altercation.

After the attack, Khan was taken to hospital by his son Ibrahim and a caretaker.

Mumbai Police releases a statement

The Bandra police, along with the Mumbai Crime Branch, are investigating the break-in and attack. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam confirmed the ongoing investigation and noted that the intruder had bypassed the building’s security measures. The police are checking the surveillance camera footage to find out how the burglar gained access to the apartment. Authorities are also working to determine whether the burglar attempted to break in or had another motive.

Details of the stabbing incident

The intruder reportedly entered Khan’s home while his family was present. Initial investigations indicate that the attacker initially confronted a maid before Khan intervened, leading to a violent confrontation. Police are investigating how the intruder circumvented the building’s security measures using CCTV footage from the building under investigation.

Taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai

Khan was taken to Lilavati Hospital around 3:00 a.m. by his son Ibrahim and a caretaker. Doctors reported that the actor suffered deep injuries, including one near the spine and another on the left wrist, which required surgery. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of the hospital, confirmed that Khan’s condition was stable but the full extent of the damage was yet to be determined.

Hospital issues statement

Khan is currently undergoing surgery at Lilavati Hospital where he was admitted with six cuts caused by a sharp object. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s COO, said Khan’s condition was stable but suggested the extent of the damage could only be fully understood after surgery. It was reported that two of the wounds were deep, one near the spine and the other on his left wrist, which may have required plastic surgery. Although his injuries are serious, they are not considered life-threatening.

Saif Ali Khan’s team releases a statement

A statement from Khan’s PR team confirmed the attack and assured fans of his recovery. “There was an attempted burglary at the residence of Mr. Saif Ali Khan. He is currently in hospital and undergoing surgery. It is a police matter and we ask the media and fans for patience,” the message said.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s team makes a statement

A statement from Kareena Kapoor Khan’s team also confirmed the attempted break-in. The statement added that the actor suffered an arm injury and that the rest of the family was safe.
“There was an attempted break-in at the residence of Saif Ali Khan and (his wife and actor) Kareena Kapoor Khan last night. Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is in the hospital and undergoing surgery. The rest of the family is doing well,” the statement said.
