Mumbai:

Actor Saif Ali Khan, who was bleeding profusely from six stab wounds, was taken to Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw by his elder son Ibrahim after the knife attack last night. Ibrahim, 23, also an actor, helped his injured father into the tricycle after he couldn’t find a car that was ready to leave. Determined not to waste time, Ibrahim and Saif got into the autorickshaw and rushed to the hospital, about two kilometers from Mr Khan’s house in Bandra.

A video taken shortly after the attack shows Mr Khan’s wife and actress Kareena Kapoor Khan standing next to the autorickshaw and talking to the household staff.

The 54-year-old actor suffered six stab wounds, one near his spine, during an argument with an intruder at his home last night. He underwent surgery and is now out of danger, his team said. The team’s statement added that all other family members were safe.

Police said that investigation suggests that the intruder entered Saif Ali Khan’s house to commit robbery.

CCTV cameras at Mr Khan’s home did not capture anyone entering the premises within two hours of the attack, meaning whoever attacked the actor had entered the building earlier and was waiting for an attack. Police are scanning CCTV footage to identify the attacker who fled after stabbing the actor.

Police suspect that the attacker is related to one of the domestic helps who also gave him entry into the actor’s house, sources said. That help is now being called into question as Mumbai Police try to get to the bottom of the shocking attack in one of Mumbai’s poshest areas.

The attack on the actor has triggered panic among other members of the cinema fraternity. Actress Pooja Bhatt said she had never felt so unsafe and called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for more police presence in Bandra.

The Opposition has launched a scathing attack on the NDA government, questioning how safe ordinary Mumbaikars are when celebrities are attacked in this way.
