Without directly naming his successor Donald Trump, Biden expressed great concern about the concentrated power of the super-rich and made sharp references to faces like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

“I would like to warn the country about some things that worry me greatly. And that is a dangerous worry. And that is the dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a few super-rich people. And the dangerous consequences if their abuse of power goes unchecked,” Biden said.

“Today, an oligarchy of extreme wealth, power and influence is taking shape in America that threatens our entire democracy, our fundamental rights, freedoms and the fair opportunity for all to advance.” He alluded to recent reports of a meeting of the billionaire advisers Musk and Zuckerberg with Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

During the 20-minute speech, Biden recounted his four decades of public service and the achievements of his presidency. He praised his administration for reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and deftly dismissed Trump’s credit. As he walked away, a journalist asked the Prez, “Who gets credit for this?” You or Trump?” Biden quickly replied: “Is this a joke?”

“It will take time before we feel the full impact of everything we have done together. But the seeds have been sown and they will grow and bloom for decades to come,” he said.

“I wish the new administration every success because I want America to succeed. That is why I have made it my duty to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power and to ensure that we lead by the force of example,” he warned.

Biden also took a moment to thank his family, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and praise Harris as a “historic vice president.” His wife, Jill Biden, showed a warm gesture by holding Harris’ hand during the speech, despite rumors of tension between the two women.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve you as Commander in Chief… My eternal gratitude goes to you, the American people,” Biden said.
