Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is out of danger after undergoing surgery for his stab wounds at Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai. The 54-year-old actor was attacked by an intruder who broke into his house around 3am on Thursday.

The star lives on the 12th floor of Satguru Sharan Apartments in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dikshit Gedam told media that six police teams have arrested the accused.

Maharashtra Home Minister Yogesh Kadam said police had some information about identifying the suspects and the search was underway.

Here are five things we know about the attacker who stabbed Saif Ali Khan:

1. Dikshit Gedam, DCP of Zone 9 of Mumbai Police, said the police have identified the person who broke into Saif Ali Khan’s house in Bandra (West) with the intention of burglary. The attacker used the fire escape to break into the actor’s apartment.

2. According to a police officer, Khan’s domestic help Elyimma Philips alias Lima was present in the house and was the first to see the accused entering the apartment. She tried to stop the defendant and sustained injuries to her hand.

3. Saif Ali Khan heard her screaming and intervened, leading to a scuffle with the attacker. The accused carried a knife and stabbed the actor, police said.

4. The attacker was spotted on CCTV footage. After attacking Khan, he managed to escape the building using the stairs.

5. “A defendant has been identified. He used the stairs to get in and teams are on scene to arrest him. There are 10 investigation teams working in different directions,” DCP Gedam added.

Commenting on Saif Ali Khan’s health, Dr. Nitin Dange from Lilavati Hospital said he suffered a serious injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a knife entering the spine.

“Saif Ali Khan was admitted to the hospital at 2 am with an alleged history of attack by an unknown person. He suffered a severe injury to the thoracic spinal cord because a knife was lodged in his spine. Surgery was performed to remove the knife and “Two other deep wounds on his left hand and another on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team. He is now recovering well and is out of danger.”
