Dave Blunts performs with Oxygen Tank at Juice WRLD Day 2024

Rapper Dave Blunts performed with an oxygen tank in a moving tribute to the late Juice WRLD at the annual Juice WRLD Day concert in Chicago. Held in celebration of the late rapper’s 26th birthday, the event brought together a variety of hip-hop talent, with Blunts’ performance being one of the most talked-about moments of the evening.

With dark words and uncompromising stage presence, this performance would be more difficult as Blunts went to work with the oxygen tank. It’s no secret that Blunts has been open about a number of ongoing health issues he’s struggled with, and his need for an oxygen tank on this set underscores how a brave rapper battles against real life.

The focus of the evening was a tribute to Juice WRLD, who died of an overdose in December 2019. Blunts, who was close to the late rapper, first paid an emotional tribute before launching into a medley of his hits. The challenges did nothing to dampen the rapper’s energy and the crowd responded with thunderous applause and cheers.

The evening wasn’t all fun and games, however, as Blunts also got serious and addressed hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg’s recent comments. Snoop, who is never one to shy away from humorous and sometimes sharp social media posts, had teased Blunts’ appearance on Instagram by saying: “Put down the chicken wings and Tata chips, Nefew and the chair that’s about to break.” at the end of the cup.”

Blunts, who never shut up about anyone, fired back during his set. As he grabbed the microphone, Blunts snapped, “I see the big dog talking. Snoop, do you think you’re funny? You don’t know what it’s like to fight for your life every damn day. I have demons and a tank to prove it. Don’t come for me if you’ve been lucky enough to be here this long, respect the fight.”

The crowd erupted as Blunts responded, and several fans appeared to side with the rapper in an act of defiance. While Snoop Dogg’s comment seemed light-hearted and joking, Blunts’ reaction highlighted the amount of stress one typically faces in the hip-hop community, from drug issues to criticism from the general public.

Snoop Dogg, who was absent from Juice WRLD Day, has not yet responded to Blunts’ comments. But the moment managed to add an extra layer of drama to an otherwise charged evening commemorating the life and legacy of Juice WRLD.

For Blunts, the night wasn’t just about music, but also a statement of survival and defiance. “I’m doing this for Juice. I’m doing this for me,” Blunts shouted as he finished his set. “We keep going no matter what happens.”

Juice WRLD Day 2024 will take place at the United Center in Chicago and will feature performances from a number of other rappers and friends of his, including Lil Uzi Vert, Kid LAROI and Future. The event has grown in significance and is a somber reminder of the impact Juice WRLD has had on the music world and the difficulties many artists face in the industry.
