Texans at Jaguars tips and predictions

forecast

Texans 35, Jaguars 13

Money line

HAPPEN.

The Texans (-190) will do their business in Jacksonville, but I’d rather bet they cover the spread than put almost two units on the money line.

Against the spread

BET TEXANS -3.5 (-110).

I’m surprised to see the line shifting in Jacksonville’s favor, especially after the blowout loss to Detroit before the bye. Bettors appear to be hoping for a Jaguars rebound considering Lawrence’s likely return and their competitive performance against Houston in Week 4.

However, the Texans desperately need this win to get back on track after losing three of their last four games. Houston is fully healthy and has one of the best offensive duos in the league at RB Joe Mixon and W.R Nico Collins. The Texans have covered in 2 of their last 3 games and should hold on against a Jaguars team that is now playing for pride.

Expect the Texans to reassert themselves as AFC contenders with a decisive win on Sunday.

Over/Under

BET OVER 44 (-110)

The total is 44, which is conveniently the same as the 24-20 scoreline from the first meeting, but I’m looking beyond that. Jacksonville has reached the over in 6 of its last 7 games while Houston is 2-0-1 against the over in its last 3 games.

Stroud and the Texans will get there, even with Mixon leading the ground game. Given Jacksonville’s NFL-worst pass defense (278.3 yards per game), Stroud should take advantage of their secondary and connect with Collins on at least one deep shot.

The Jaguars are also allowing 28.7 PPG, second-worst in the league, and have given up 30.7 PPG in their last three games. With Houston primed for a big offensive performance, Jacksonville only needs 10-13 points to surpass that point total. Expect fireworks in this game.
