Fiorentina-Inter Milan abandoned after Edoardo Bove collapsed

Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove was taken from the pitch in an ambulance after collapsing shortly after the start of the Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday.

The game was suspended at the Stadio Franchi in Florence to examine a possible VAR review of a disallowed goal by Lautaro Martínez when the 22-year-old, who appeared to be bending over to remove his boot, suddenly collapsed, leading to a stoppage in play .

Serie A announced after the incident that the game would be canceled and rescheduled at a later date.

Medical staff rushed onto the pitch and Fiorentina players formed a ring around Bove, who joined the club on loan from AS Roma in August.

Bove was taken away in an ambulance, after which the referee asked the players to leave the pitch and return to the dressing room.

Sky Sport Italia reported that Bove was transported to the Careggi hospital in Florence and that he was breathing on his own and regaining consciousness.

Inter chairman Giuseppe Marotta said postponing the game was an easy decision.

“Football is a community. Of course, when situations like this happen, all the players and the referee worked together to help and it was a spontaneous decision to abandon the game,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Support for Bove came from other Serie A clubs.

“We are all with you, Edoardo!” Juventus posted on X, where league leaders Napoli said: “Come on Edoardo, we are with you!”

It is the second incident this year in which a player collapses during a Serie A match. This happened to Roma defender Evan Ndicka during his team’s game at Udinese in April.
