Dotsey and Bornemann led to victory in Stonehill with a strong offensive

EASTON, Mass. – Caroline Dotsey scored a career-high 26 points Caroline Borneman posted their fourth double-double of the season as the Black Bears defeated Stonehill 87-75 on Tuesday night.

Maine hit a season-high 14 triples in the win, including 10 in the first half, recording its highest point total since an 88-point effort on Dec. 11, 2022.

Dotsey led the Black Bears, shooting 8 of 14 from the floor and hitting a career-best five triples for her 26 points. Bornemann added 21 points and 12 rebounds Sera Hodgson added 12 points with a trio of triples.

The Black Bears shot 47.0 percent (31 of 66) and 35.9 percent (14 of 39) from the floor through three games, leading the impressive offensive performance.

Maine trailed by four after one quarter when Stonehill hit 10 of 15 points in the first quarter.

The Black Bears managed to flip the script in the second quarter when they shot 10 of 15 and outscored the Skyhawks 24-13 in the period.

Maine, trailing with 8:21 left in the first half, got triples from Hodgson and Dotsey to take a one-point lead, 32-31.

Stonehill battled back to regain a one-point lead before Maine ended the half with a 16-5 run. Six consecutive points from Bornemann extended Maine’s lead to nine before Stonehill hit two free throws to get within seven points of the tie. Dotsey’s three-pointer at the horn gave Maine a 10-point lead, 50-40, at the break. Dotsey’s triple was Maine’s sixth of the quarter and 10th of the game.

Maine’s lead would be around 10 in the third period before five straight points Sarah Talon extended the lead to 13.

The Black Bears remained on top 67-58 heading into the final quarter.

Stonehill scored the first four points of the final quarter and got within five points with just over nine minutes to play in regulation time before reducing the deficit to just three with 5:15 left.

A 5-0 run by Dotsey, starting with a bucket in the paint before hitting a three-pointer off a turnover, extended the lead back to eight.

The lead wouldn’t go below six again as Maine closed the contest with a 9-3 run to secure the win 87-75.

Maine returns to play on Sunday, December 1st when it takes on Indiana at 2 p.m
