Hannah Kobayashi didn’t miss the flight on purpose: family-related

The family of missing Hawaii woman Hannah Kobayashi is pushing back against the Los Angeles Police Department’s assessment that the 30-year-old intentionally abandoned her connecting flight to New York when she disappeared last month.

“On Friday, November 8th, 23-year-old Hannah Kobayashi missed her connecting flight from LAX to New York, which the investigation determined was intentional,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said in a November 26th update – her family had Kobayashi’s Age incorrectly stated later pointed out.

McDonnell added that investigators have “carefully reviewed video surveillance and used various investigative techniques to locate Hannah” since beginning the investigation on November 15. He noted that her family also continued the search and stressed that authorities “remain fully committed to locating Hannah.” ”

Hannah Kobayashi was supposed to land at New York’s JFK Airport to visit family and explore the city, but never arrived. Video surveillance showed her leaving the airport, and a series of disjointed text messages to friends and family raised alarms.

Her mother and sister issued a statement Saturday through the RAD Movement, a nonprofit organization that was assisting her in the search, insisting that Hannah would never cut off contact in this way and citing factual inaccuracies in the police statement objected to.

“It is completely out of character for Hannah to simply disappear without a trace,” her mother and sister wrote in a statement on Facebook. “We remain deeply concerned for Hannah’s safety, well-being and current mental state.”

The pair said they were surprised by some of the revelations in the update, and expressed concern about what they saw as a lack of transparency. According to the mother and daughter, the biggest secret was that Hannah never stayed silent after learning of her father Ryan Kobayashi’s death by suicide last week in Los Angeles.

“The lack of communication about some important details has left us feeling excluded from potentially crucial developments,” the mother and daughter said. “However, we remain confident and optimistic that the Los Angeles Police Department is doing everything in its power to assist us in finding Hannah.”
