The bankruptcy of the former Panthers collapses in catastrophic week 13

Former Panthers WR Laviska Shenault, who suffered one of his worst games as a pro in Week 13 for the Seahawks, is the subject of ire among Seattle fans.

Shenault fumbled three kick returns. He recovered two of them and the Seahawks ultimately won with a narrow 26-21 comeback, but there’s little reason to believe Shenault should be the return man going forward.

After being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Shenault failed to live up to the expectations placed on him.

It’s not often that you have the opportunity to block three kicks. One is too many, two are outrageous, and three are notable. Shenault has only had five catches for 36 yards this season, reflecting the limited impact he has made.

That sounds familiar to Panthers fans who have watched Shenault for two years. He caught 37 of 42 passes for 332 yards and a touchdown with the organization and showed limited upside despite an impressive catch rate.

Overall, things didn’t work out in Carolina. Based on the performance Shenault has shown this season, it wasn’t a good performance in Seattle either. His ability to generate yards after the catch was a huge asset, but you have to protect the football to show that ability.

The Panthers had an impressive performance against the Buccaneers and there is a lot to like about Bryce Young’s development. They need to better surround him with talent if they’re serious about long-term evaluation, which means avoiding failed signings like Shenauilt.
