NFC injury updates: Warner, Wright, Paschal

49ers Linebackers Fred Warner had an outstanding season and became the best linebacker in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required). The veteran’s impressive performance comes despite an obvious injury.

According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, Warner recently reported that he was dealing with a broken ankle. The injury reportedly occurred during a game against the Patriots back on September 29th. That means Warner played through the injury for eight weeks, only having the bye week as a break.

Warner doesn’t expect to ever be sidelined but plans to continue playing through the injury. “Anytime you break a bone and you just keep playing on it, the bone usually won’t be able to heal itself. So I just have to keep fighting through it.”

Here are some more updates on injuries across the NFC:

  • The Bears A series of setbacks were inflicted during Thursday’s Thanksgiving game. The most concerning of those setbacks was a knee injury that required a right tackle Darnell Wright carted off the field, according to Gene Chamberlain of Sports Illustrated. Fortunately, the midweek game gives Chicago ten days to rest and recover, but the location of the injury is problematic as Wright’s only absence this year (three weeks ago) was due to a knee injury. Here’s what to look for in the early injury reports as the team goes to practice this week under the new interim head coach Thomas Brown.
  • The Lions I can’t afford to lose any more bodies on the defensive line. There was initially some concern that the defense could end Josh Paschal could be in trouble after suffering a non-contact knee injury on Thursday, but things are looking good. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “Paschal’s knee injury is not considered serious.” He will likely require some physical rehabilitation, but the injury will not be season-ending as initially feared.
