Gabe Vincent’s latest exploit against the Lakers raises questions about Rob Pelinka’s job as fans regret a $33 million move

After a crushing loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Los Angeles Lakers lost much of their rotation tonight against the Utah Jazz. One prominent absence was Austin Reaves, the Purple and Gold’s third-leading scorer. Likewise, JJ Redick had to find a replacement off the bench, which ranks last in the league in points scored. The choice was Gabe Vincent, and right in line, the former Heat guard probably had his best game as a Laker.

Since the Lakers were only averaging 2.8 points per game before tonight, they couldn’t afford another low-scoring night with Reaves unavailable. And so, in his first game as a starter this season, Vincent did something he had never done as a Laker. He scored 10 points, his career high in the regular season for the Purple and Gold.

For him personally, Redick and the Lakers are hoping this is a sign that he’s breaking the cold snap. Gabe Vincent spent much of his time on the sidelines last season after breaking out with the Heat. Before taking office, Redick also praised Vincent for his professionalism and consistency.

However, that was difficult to achieve this season as the supporting coach even criticized him for his limited shot attempts. Although his attempts this evening are at 5, Vincent was efficient and only missed one shot. Additionally, his two three-pointers are also a season high for the defensive-minded guard.
