Dangerous weather, winter storm warning for parts of northern Michigan

NORTHERN MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) — A winter storm warning is in effect for Grand Traverse and Kalkaska counties until 7 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning because heavy snow was expected, with accumulations of 6 to 12 inches.

Travel could be very difficult and impact the morning commute on Monday.

The National Weather Service issued a forecast for hazardous weather for the eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan through Sunday night.

Lake-effect snow showers will continue to accumulate in the snow belts of eastern upper, northwestern and north-central lower Michigan through tonight.

Affected counties include: Emmet-Cheboygan-Presque Isle-Leelanau-Antrim-Otsego-Montmorency-Alpena-Benzie-Grand Traverse-Kalkaska-Crawford-Oscoda-Alcona-Manistee-Wexford-Missaukee-Roscommon-Ogemaw-Iosco-Gladwin- Arenac -West Chippewa Central Chippewa-Southeast Chippewa-Western Mackinac-Eastern Mackinac-Mackinac Island/Bois Blanc Island-Beaver Island and surrounding islands-Charlevoix-

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Benzie, Manistee and Wexford counties until 7 a.m. Monday morning, with an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulation.

The dangerous conditions could impact Monday morning commutes.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Leelanau, Crawford, Missaukee and Roscommon counties until 7 a.m. Monday.

Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 7 inches are expected, making travel difficult.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Lake, Osceola and Clare counties until 7 a.m. Monday.

Overall, snow accumulations of between 2.5 and 10 cm are expected.
