This weekend will be dry and unusually mild

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Limited warming this week will keep our temperatures just above normal for this time of year.

The risk of avalanches is decreasing, but has not disappeared

The heavy snowfall early last week kept the avalanche danger particularly high over the weekend. The avalanche danger drops from levels 3 and 4 from 5 (significant to high) to level 2 (significant) from Sunday to Monday. The risk is decreasing, but that doesn’t mean it is low. If you go to the mountains, be aware that the danger of avalanches is high and avoid avalanche-prone terrain as much as possible. There is still plenty of snow on the slopes. Several avalanches have been observed and remain possible. The lack of new snow this week will certainly help further reduce avalanche danger later in the week.

Weather this week

For much of this week, high pressure will be the primary influence on our weather. It will build from our northwest and maintain a dry flow of wind over Colorado. This will limit the amount of new precipitation this week and we will be warmer under this high pressure.

Our next 24 hours

The evening will be clear and cool. We cool from mid to upper 30s at 6pm to low to mid 30s at 8pm and then to mid to upper 20s at 10pm. The rest of tonight will be clear. Low temperatures will be around 26 degrees around Grand Junction, 21 degrees around Montrose, 22 degrees around Delta, 17 degrees around Cortez and 22 degrees around Moab. Monday will be mostly sunny. High temperatures will be around 48 degrees around Grand Junction, 46 degrees around Montrose, 49 degrees around Delta, 51 degrees around Cortez and 45 degrees around Moab.
