Republicans respond to Biden’s “no one is above the law” post after Hunter’s pardon

After President Joe Biden’s attempt to pardon his son Hunter Biden, several Republican lawmakers highlighted a post on X from earlier this year in which the president claimed: “No one is above the law.”

Reps. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., and Eli Crane, R-Arizona, both shared Biden’s post and commented, “Unless your last name is Biden.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tx., tweeted: “This has aged like fine milk.”

“You have been lied to at every turn by this administration and the corrupt Biden family. This is just the latest part of their long cover-up plan. They never follow the same rules that they impose on everyone else. A disgrace,” said the MP. Steve Scalise, R-La., stated in response to the old Biden tweet.

In a statement on Sunday, President Biden noted that he had signed the pardon.

“From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere in the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I have kept my word, even as I watched my son be selectively and unfairly prosecuted was,” the president said in the statement.

The “full and unconditional pardon” granted by the President to Hunter covers “…offenses against the United States which he committed or may have committed or participated in during the period from January 1, 2014 to December 1, 2024 was involved…” the pardon states.

President-elect Donald Trump spoke out in a post on Truth Social.

“Does the pardon granted by Joe Hunter include the J-6 hostages who have been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of justice!” Trump declared.
