Rams star RB on the best performance of the season

The Los Angeles Rams (6-6) got a much-needed victory with a 21-14 victory over the New Orleans Saints (4-8) on Sunday afternoon, and third-year running back Kyren Williams was the star of the show with his contribution a career-high 104 rushing yards with a touchdown score that sparked the comeback.

Williams’ performance was his best of the year and his second 100-yard rushing game of the season. He also scored his 10th touchdown of the year, tied for fourth in the NFL along with three other defensive backs. Williams talked about how he felt when he had his best performance in 12 games.

“It felt great, it felt like I was being myself and playing like that out there, I was playing instinctive football,” Williams said. “I had a lot of energy and I spread it around the team and we were just out there playing ball and having fun. Honestly, it feels good to reach out to me.”

The Rams were shut out in the first half and couldn’t muster any offensive production against the NFL’s second-worst defense. Williams knew at halftime there was no doubt they would respond positively and that’s exactly what they did.

On the first drive of the second half, Williams hit a four-yard touchdown run that turned a 6-0 deficit into a 7-6 lead. This result completely changed the dynamic of the contest, as the Rams scored 21 points in the second half via three touchdown scores.

“We knew we were going to come out in the second half and that half was going to be ours,” Williams said. “We knew we knew as a running back group, as an offensive line and as an offense in general. We just knew we were going to take the lead and we saw the runs work in the first half, so we were excited to come out and do the same thing in the second half.”

Williams did an incredible job protecting the football and playing tenacious, hungry football on the ground. With five games left to play and a potential playoff spot up for grabs, he is determined to continue his success and work to get better every week.

“I have to continue to focus on the details and, like I said, continue to be who I am,” Williams said. “Have fun with this game because I feel like when I’m having fun I can do a lot of things and create a lot of plays.”
