AC/DC Turn on The world tour is coming to North America next year for a stadium run that begins April 10 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and ends May 28 in Cleveland, Ohio. If they stick to the script from the European leg earlier this year, expect all the big hits (“Back in Black,” “Highway to Hell,” “You Shook Me All Night Long”) and fan favorites (“Let There Be Rock” )”, “Hight Voltage”), some deep songs (“Rock ‘n’ Roll Train”, “Stiff Upper Lip”) and two songs (“Demon Fire”, “Shot in the Dark”) from their LP from that year 2020 Turn on.

There has not been an AC/DC concert in North America since their appearance at the Power Trip Festival in 2023, their first appearance since 2016 Back in black-era bassist Cliff Williams before his retirement. They brought back former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney for this year’s European tour, and he’ll be back next year. Mike Campbell and Dirty Knobs drummer Matt Laug also joined the group for Power Trip and he has been there ever since.

Vocalist Brian Johnson and lead guitarist Angus Young remain in the band, and Stevie Young will return on rhythm guitar, filling in for his uncle Malcolm when health problems forced him off the tour in 2014. Stevie Young played with AC/DC on their 2014 LP Rock or Bust and the follow-up for 2020 Turn on. Classic-era member Phil Rudd plays on both records but has not performed live with the band since black ice The tour ended on June 28, 2010 in Bilbao, Spain.

This Bilbao show was also the last time Malcolm Young appeared in public. At this point, the guitarist was struggling with serious cognitive problems, but still managed to get through concerts. “He still knew what he wanted to do,” Angus Young said Rolling Stone in 2014. “I had said to him, ‘Do you want to do what we’re doing?’ And he said, ‘Fuck yeah.'” The guitarist had to relearn many of the famous guitar parts he had written for the band. “(It) was very strange for him,” Angus said. “But he was always a confident guy and we did it.”

Like countless shows before, they rounded off the evening with “For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)” and the deafening roar of cannons. There is no professional footage of the evening, but enterprising fans put together a video of two fans at the front of the stage. “We salute our crew,” Johnson bellows at the end. “We greet you, España. We greet you!”

Since that night in Spain, the band has faced many turmoil, losses, health setbacks and legal problems. A low point came in 2016 when Johnson had to retire from the road due to hearing loss and Axl Rose took his place. At this point there was a scenario that Angus Young would continue to lead AC/DC as the last legitimate member. Luckily, thanks to new, advanced hearing aids, Johnson was able to rejoin the band. It’s impossible to say how long this incarnation of the band will last, so let’s all enjoy it while we still can. In the near future this will all just be a memory.
