As Bo Nix started to get going, so did veteran wideout Courtland Sutton Denver Broncos Attack. As the meat and potatoes section arrives on the Broncos’ schedule, it’s a good sign that the duo’s partnership continues to blossom, particularly with the Cleveland Browns Next up is Monday evening.

Experienced players will be in high demand during the Broncos’ playoff push, and as Nix told the media on Friday, his receiver of choice is a top player every time he shows up.

“One thing I admire about him is that he trains extremely hard every day,” Nix said of Sutton on Friday. “He’s out there practicing like it’s a playoff game or the Super Bowl. He gets every rep – he hates missing a rep. I know he’ll be there. I know he will take the call. I know we got that call in training so I have all the confidence in the world throwing it to him.

As with all symbiotic relationships in football, building trust and chemistry often comes through repetition.

“It’s practice and trying to maximize those reps that we get in practice,” Sutton said. “We have guys stepping up.”(WR) Troy (Franklin) and (WR Devaughn) Vele have done a really good job of maximizing their reps. “Marv” (WR Marvin Mims Jr.) is doing a great job finding his niche in this offense. It was a lot of fun watching everyone play their role on offense and how we were able to get yards, stay on the field and score points.”

Devaugh Vele in particular has excelled in the final quarter of the season and it has been a productive revelation. Sutton has a knack for moving the chains for the Nix-led offense, and that connection is giving his opponents considerable yardage these days.

That’s a far cry from Week 7, a low point when Sutton played 56 snaps but didn’t receive an official target. There’s no doubt that something has clicked for Sutton and his rookie quarterback in recent weeks, and they’re becoming a fearsome tandem around the league.

The time Nix and Sutton spent together and all the replays don’t fully explain the run they’ve been on. Making Sutton a key part of his offense became a top priority for Payton.

Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi also saw how hard work put in for Sutton and Nix to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them on game day, and the positive results resulted.

“I think they are two good players and guys who work hard in training,” Lombardi said Saturday. “The opportunities arose and they took advantage of them. Obviously nothing is promised for tomorrow, but we feel good about where these guys are. They’re doing a good job.”

Opening the playbook didn’t happen overnight for Payton. The Broncos’ head coach has been primarily committed to creating the framework for Nix. Part of that process is enabling a WR1 relationship for his quarterback and allowing for more organic development while also carving out the Broncos’ true offensive identity.

Now we see the additional wrinkles, like second-year player Marvin Mims Jr.’s involvement hurting teams and Payton suddenly dealing with a full deck.

“We have a pretty good menu now,” Payton said Friday.
