IRS whistleblowers criticize Hunter Biden’s presidential pardon

Two IRS whistleblowers who testified before Congress last year about the Justice Department’s alleged interference in a tax investigation case against Hunter Biden said the president’s sweeping pardon of his son was not surprising.

IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, a special agent with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, spoke exclusively with Fox News host Martha MacCallum on “The Story” on Monday in their first interview since President Biden issued a full and unconditional pardon for him Son.

“I wasn’t surprised at all. This was something we expected,” Shapley said of the pardon. “You can tell by the maneuvers of the defenders that this was in the offing. And, you know, the surprising thing is that the president of the United States has lied to the American people about his intentions.”

Biden repeatedly denied that he would pardon his son, who pleaded guilty in September to nine charges against him in a federal tax case, including three felony tax charges and six misdemeanor tax charges.

The first son was also found guilty in June of three offenses related to the illegal purchase of a firearm.

HUNTER BIDEN SAYS HIS MISTAKES HAVE BEEN ‘EXPLOITED’ FOR POLITICAL SPORTS AND HE WILL NEVER TAKE FORGIVENESS FOR COURSE

Biden announced Sunday that he would pardon his only surviving son, who he said was prosecuted “selectively” and “unfairly.” The pardon is valid for a period of ten years for all crimes that the younger Biden committed or may have committed between 2014 and 2024.

“No reasonable person looking at the facts of Hunter’s cases could come to any conclusion other than that Hunter was singled out simply because he is my son – and that is wrong. Attempts have been made to break Hunter — who is five and a half years sober, even in the face of relentless attacks and selective prosecution,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House. “By trying to break Hunter, they tried to break me – and there’s no reason to think it will stop here. Enough is enough.”

SIX TIMES KARINE JEAN-PIERRE SAID President Biden would not pardon his son Hunter

Special Agent Ziegler told MacCallum that Biden’s claims that his son was “singled out” were “completely ridiculous.”

“I am a democrat and a person who believes in the rule of law. If you look at what he was accused of, criminal tax evasion, and what he pleaded guilty to, there are thousands of taxpayers who file their taxes honestly.” “They pay their taxes on time, and I think they should be disappointed about that, because they are held to a different standard than the political elite,” said Ziegler.

He added that at the end of the day he was disappointed that Hunter Biden got a “free pass.”

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, wrote on Xformerly Twitter that he was “disappointed” by Biden’s decision to pardon his son because the commander in chief made the decision to put his family “over the country.”

“This is a bad precedent that could be abused by future presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation,” Polis wrote. “Hunter brought upon himself the legal difficulties he faced, and one can sympathize with his struggles while recognizing that no one is above the law, no president and no president’s son.”
