Elton John says he lost his sight after an eye infection

Elton John says he lost his sight after an eye infection earlier this year.

The legendary musician made the comments at a gala benefit screening of “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” on Sunday evening.

“I couldn’t get to a lot of the previews because, as you know, I lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see it, but I love hearing it – and boy, it sounded good” today Evening,” the “Rocket Man” singer-songwriter said while speaking on stage, according to a video posted by Storyful.

John, who composed the music for the musical, also took the time to thank those involved in the production: The Devil Wears Prada author Lauren Weisberger and his husband David Furnish. “It’s quite a night, it’s been quite a journey and it all ended so wonderfully,” he said.

John opened up to Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts about his vision problems back in November.

“Unfortunately I lost my vision in my right eye in July due to an infection in the south of France and it has now been four months since I could no longer see,” he said at the time, adding: “My left eye is not the greatest.

John added that there is reason to be optimistic about his eyesight.

“There’s hope and encouragement that it’s going to be okay, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment,” he said. “I can do something like that, but I don’t know how to go into the studio and record.”

John said he is focused on doing what he can to improve his vision and said he cannot see, see or read anything at the moment.
