Sting’s skills as a bassist will be on display as he accompanies the Top 8 during the duet portion of the live show on Monday, December 2, starting at 8/7c on NBC (and streaming the next day on Peacock). Here are the pairings for the show and the planned songs:

  • Jan Dan and Adam Bohanan sings “Roxanne”
  • Sofronio Vasquez and Jeremy Beloate sing “Every Breath”
  • Shye and Sydney Sterlace sing “Fields of Gold”
  • Danny Joseph and Christina Eagle sings “If you love someone, set them free.”

Sting told NBC’s Mark Barger he was “a little nervous” about stepping in as mega-mentor.

“I was a teacher and there are some elements of that teaching phenomenon in the show,” he said. “I was a little nervous coming in because I don’t really know what to say, but I enjoyed giving a hint and then seeing it come into action. Action, wow, that makes a big difference. So tiny.” Little thing you say suddenly blooms, and that’s exciting.

As for what Sting says he looks for in artists, he said: “REsonance is a very good word. I want to hear real voices. I want to hear authentic voices, but I want to hear people singing in unison because it hurts when they don’t. And the quality of the singing this morning (while filming Knockouts) was just extraordinary. So I’ve just given hints on small technical details that are very easy to do. But it was actually a wonderful experience.
