Celtics-Heat February 12, 2024 Preview: Time, TV, Odds, Notes

It is the first meeting of the season with Miami, a playoff opponent for the last three springs. They were also on the move Sunday into Monday after dropping a 119-116 decision to the under-.500 Raptors in Toronto, ending a two-game winning streak.

Tyler Herro scored 31 points on 6 of 12 long-range shooting, but missed a 3 in the final minute that would have tied the score. It is he, not Jimmy Butler, who leads the Miami offense, with Herro scoring a top 20 NBA top 24.0 points per game.

He’s still struggling defensively, but Herro’s shooting percentage has never been higher – 47 percent from the field and 41.9 from 3-point range, although the Heat have lost his five-highest points of the season in a 9-9 start.

As for Butler, he limped through the loss. The six-time All-Star, second on the team with 18.9 points/game, was on the bench Sunday after suffering an injury to his right knee on a layup late in the fourth quarter. It’s the same knee that kept him out of last year’s first-round playoff series, which the Celtics won in five games.

The Celtics will be without Jrue Holiday (left knee tendinopathy), Al Horford (left big toe sprain) and Kristaps Porzingis (return from injury treatment).

Sam Hauser was late for personal reasons.

Jaylen Brown (not suffering from Covid) is available. Jayson Tatum (right patellar tendinopathy) and Derrick White (right ankle sprain) are questionable.
