Customize your PS5 home with a limited-time aesthetic based on old consoles

A new, limited-time PlayStation 5 feature released to mark the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand will allow users to customize the console’s main menu with graphics and sounds of yesteryear, PlayStation Lifestyle reports.

When you boot up your PS5 today, you should be prompted to download a new update (if not, go to Settings > System > System Software and click “Update System Features” to continue the process manually). Restart your console and you should be greeted by a new boot sequence reminiscent of the original PlayStation, complete with the old-school Sony Computer Entertainment logo and a booming soundtrack. After a brief introduction to the feature, a new PlayStation 30th Anniversary option should now be available at the top of your Settings page, which includes look and sound options based on PlayStations 1-4, as well as a special milestone panel.

While the feature doesn’t go so far as to make the PS5’s homepage look exactly like its predecessors’ operating systems, it’s still an entertaining walk down memory lane. I also wish Sony would allow you to mix and match, because I’d love to use the original PlayStation aesthetic along with the smooth click of the PlayStation 3’s navigation effects, but that’s life. If you can’t check it yourself, here are a bunch of screenshots.

It is unclear how long this short-term feature will last. So enjoy while it’s available.
