As for what beauty means to her, she said it’s about “being brave and living your dreams. It’s never too late.”

The Gotham Awards have had gender-neutral categories since 2021, and this year Pamela is competing against an impressive line-up of Outstanding Lead Actor nominees, including Nicole Kidman in Babygirl, Demi Moore in The Substance, Colman Domingo in Sing Sing and Saoirse Ronan in The Outrun , Justice Smith in I Saw The TV Glow, Keith Kupferer in Ghostlight, Mikey Madison in Anora and Marianne Jean-Baptiste in Hard Truths.

Pamela is nominated for her role in “The Last Showgirl,” in which she plays a veteran Las Vegas actress at the end of her career.

Written by Kate Gersten, the film features an impressive ensemble cast including Jamie Lee Curtis as Shelly’s best friend and Dave Bautista as the series producer.

Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka and Billie Lourd play supporting roles.

Anderson’s performance received critical acclaim and earned her the Marquee Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival.

The 34th Annual Gotham Awards marks the official start of the 2024-2025 awards season.

This year’s event introduces two new competition categories: Best Director, awarded for the first time, and the return of the Breakthrough Performer award.

The nominations highlight a diverse range of independent films, with Anora leading the way with four nominations, followed by I Saw the TV Glow and Nickel Boys with three nominations each.

Special awards will be presented to several industry greats, including Denis Villeneuve, who will receive the Director Tribute for “Dune: Part Two,” and Angelina Jolie, who will receive the Performer Tribute for “Maria.”

Presented by the Gotham Film & Media Institute, the awards recognize and promote independent film and media creators and provide critical recognition to emerging and established talent.

Pamela’s new film is directed by Gia Coppola, the granddaughter of “The Godfather” director Francis Ford Coppola and niece of “Lost In Translation” filmmaker Sofia Coppola.

Gia revealed that she was inspired to cast her leading lady after watching her 2023 Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story.

Released around the same time as her memoir Love, Pamela, the documentary allowed her to bare her soul about her career, her relationships and the trauma of the scandal when a sex tape featuring Tommy Lee was stolen and leaked.

When she watched Pamela’s documentary, Gia was “so impressed with her knowledge of arthouse cinema, art and philosophy,” she told Deadline.

“I saw a woman bursting at the seams because she wanted to express herself creatively.”

However, when Pamela’s agent received the script for The Last Showgirl, he neglected to even screen it before rejecting it.

“He didn’t think it was right for me,” Pamela said. “He thought I couldn’t do it. “I wasn’t offered anything at that point. But in a way I had kind of given up.’

But Pamela and Tommy’s son Brandon Thomas Lee came to the rescue when he found the script in his mother’s agent’s office.

Brandon, who produced the Netflix documentary that inspired Gia to send Pamela the script in the first place, then brought The Last Showgirl to his mother’s attention.

Pamela said she read the script and “I felt it.” I had to do it. I sensed Shelly immediately. I knew it was right. There’s something karmic there because if Brandon hadn’t done that documentary and Gia hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t be doing it.”

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and receiving critical acclaim, The Last Showgirl hits theaters on December 13th.
